    STAGE 2 Public Exhibition completed

Concept plans were exhibited from 1 to 29 September 2025 for each section of John Street, 27 John Street, and a Signage and Wayfinding Strategy for Camden.

Submissions received during this time are being reviewed independently and will be reported to Council for consideration.

Thank you for your interest. We look forward to working with all our stakeholders to improve John Street for our current community and future generations.

The draft Signage and Wayfinding Strategy is a comprehensive plan that guides how people navigate and experience the Camden Town Centre, through visual cues like signs, maps, symbols, and spatial design. It’s not just about putting up signs; it’s about creating a cohesive, intuitive, and accessible experience that helps people find their way, understand where they are, and feel a sense of place.

The design of the signage included in the draft Strategy was developed in line with feedback received during community engagement undertaken in 2024. You can learn more about this phase here.

Colour palette

The colour palette presented in the draft Signage and Wayfinding Strategy was chosen based on feedback from the community during consultation in June 2024 as well as from observations of Camden.

The colour palette consists of greens and lighter, more natural tones to pay tribute to the heritage and natural surrounds of Camden.

Graphic accents

Two graphic accents have been presented in the draft Signage and Wayfinding Strategy:

  1. The Town Silhouette - A line drawing from a silhouette of Camden based on an 1895 photo by C Kerry looking up towards St John's Church from central John Street has been designed and included on the bottom of the larger signs.
  2. The Jacaranda Flower - After researching key visual characteristics of Camden, the consultant identified the Jacaranda flower as one of Camden's key features. Along with the many Jacarandas planted in the middle of Argyle Street and in the upper precinct of John Street, the Jacaranda flower is represented in various iron detailing on buildings lining Argyle Street.
