  • Under Focus Area 4: Systems and Processes has been changed to Improving Council’s systems and processes for people with disability to bring clarity to Council’s commitment.

DRAFT DISABILITY INCLUSION ACTION PLAN (DIAP) 2023 - 2027

Camden Council is required under the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (DIA) to undertake disability inclusion action planning to support our community of people with disability (PwD).

The draft Disability Inclusion Plan (DIAP) sets out Council’s commitment to the continuous improvement of inclusion and access to information, services and facilities provided for PwD, their families and carers.

Please take some time to consider the content of the draft DIAP and then make a submission to show support or to make suggestions for improvement.

Supporting Documentation

Printed versions of the documents, including braille and large print formats, are also publicly available for viewing throughout the exhibition period at:

  • Council’s customer service counter at 70 Central Avenue, Oran Park
  • our libraries in Oran Park, Camden and Narellan

Exhibition period: 31 March to 27 April 2023

At the conclusion of the exhibition period, any unresolved submissions received will be reported back to Council for consideration. If no unresolved submissions are received during the exhibition period, the DIAP will come into effect.

Collaboration

An extensive consultation program was undertaken to ensure PwD, their families and carers, organisations, community groups and businesses had the opportunity to be heard and provide input into development of the DIAP. Around 300 people participated in surveys and focus groups. You learn more about the consultation process here or look for the 'Link to Consultation' column in the DIAP tables from page 38.

As legislatively required, the draft DIAP outlines four Key Focus Areas, which include:

  • Attitudes and behaviours;
  • Liveable communities;
  • Employment; and
  • Systems and processes.

As a result of the consultation, each Focus Area has been developed to demonstrate:

  • Clear Objectives: Outlines the ‘action’ of the objective, detailing the program, events, projects and/or events to ensure Council will demonstrate its commitment to meeting legislated requirements;
  • Identified Strategic Actions: Outlines the links back to relevant internal and external Strategic documents;
  • Performance Indicators: Identifies how Council will measure performance; and.
  • Links back to consultation: Identifies how Council is meeting sector gaps and/or needs that were identified from consultation.

Implementation of Council’s draft DIAP will be delivered in partnership with our local community, services, organisations and businesses to achieve the planned outcomes.
