Draft Western Sydney Regional Affordable Rental Housing Contribution Scheme

We would like to hear your thoughts about if the draft Western Sydney Regional Affordable Rental Housing Contribution Scheme (the draft Scheme) should be adopted in the Camden Local Government Area (LGA). This draft Scheme has been prepared by the Western Sydney Planning Partnership with input from Western Sydney councils,

Camden Council is required to have an affordable rental housing contribution scheme, and we will need to develop our own scheme if we do not adopt this one.

The draft Scheme aims to provide new affordable rental housing, so people on very-low, low and moderate incomes can choose to live in the Camden community. People on these incomes may include:

  • apprentices and graduates
  • single income families
  • pensioners
  • essential workers such as nurses, childcare workers, teachers and emergency services workers

People may need to rent affordable housing at different stages of their lives. The draft Scheme proposes to retain affordable housing built under this Scheme in perpetuity, so that it is available for existing and future generations.

Affordable rental housing is separate to social housing and private market housing as illustrated below.
