We're improving Hilder Reserve
In 2021, Camden Council adopted a masterplan for the redevelopment of Hilder Reserve. The masterplan aims to upgrade the reserve to meet community needs for sport and recreation facilities, while retaining it as a key baseball facility in the local government area.
Stage One has now been completed
The works delivered include:
- One senior and two junior baseball diamonds, complete with fencing, dugouts, irrigation, and floodlighting to support baseball activities.
- Improved accessibility through upgraded pathways.
- Enhanced site drainage to manage water flow during major rain events.
- Planting and landscaping works to improve the amenity of the reserve.
Hilder Reserve baseball activity has recently resumed.
What's next?
Stage One of the baseball facility is now complete, and weare reviewing and updating the Masterplan to ensure it is ready for potential
grant applications and funding opportunities.
Council is encouraging residents to provide feedback on two proposed changes to the operations and Masterplan of the site.
Night Games
Baseball training was held during the day and evening at Hilder Reserve using the Stage One facilities until the construction of the upgraded facilities commenced.
It is now proposed to host night games at the newly completed baseball fields.
The upgraded LED lighting complies with Baseball Australia’s standards for night games and has been designed to minimise spill into the surrounding areas.
Sports activities will continue to comply with Council’s approved hours for sports fields. Council managed sports fields operate from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, consistent across the Camden LGA. Floodlighting remains available until 10:15 pm to allow a short period after bookings for safe pack-up and for the LED lights to cool down.
Changes proposed for Masterplan Layout
In the Hilder Reserve Masterplan, the open space at the corner of Harrington Street and Lowe Crescent known as “Area 07” was set aside for future planning. See Masterplan here and below.
It is now time to consider a proposal to retain Area 07 for baseball warm-up and training activities, including a batting cage and the future installation of a playspace.
Council is proposing to relocate the playspace from its originally proposed position near the batting cage and little league baseball field (Area 10). This change aims to avoid potential conflicts between ball games and the play area.
