What is this policy about?
Camden Council is taking a proactive step toward preserving local biodiversity while supporting sustainable development, with the release of a revised Biodiversity Certification Policy for the Camden Local Government Area (LGA).
Council invites the community to review and provide feedback on the revised Biodiversity Certification in the Camden LGA Policy, which will be on public exhibition from Wednesday, 20 August 2025 to Friday, 19 September 2025.
Biodiversity Certification provides a streamlined assessment process for areas identified for development at the strategic planning stage. It enables early identification of options to offset biodiversity impacts, supporting sustainable development while protecting Camden’s natural environment.
The revised policy offers clearer guidance on how biodiversity certification is applied within the Camden Local Government Area (LGA), helping Council, landholders, and developers understand the process and responsibilities involved.
Background
Council first adopted the Biodiversity Certification in the Camden LGA Policy on 23 June 2015 to facilitate the implementation of measures to improve biodiversity values within Camden, and to provide guidance to Council and the community on how to pursue biodiversity certification of land within the Camden LGA.
Community members are encouraged to view the revised policy and make a submission—whether in support or with suggested changes—during the exhibition period.
