We're creating our first Volunteering Strategy to support and grow volunteering within Council and the community.
The Camden local government area is blessed with generous and thoughtful residents who help others in a multitude of ways. We know that people are planting trees to nurture our environment, making meals for those in need and supporting charities to raise funds for important community services.
The Volunteering Strategy will identify what the community currently has and needs into the future, providing an opportunity for us to support individuals and organisations to continue their work.
Volunteering is defined by Volunteering Australia as:
"Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain."
Types of Volunteering
- Informal Volunteering: Happens mostly in local communities to meet specific needs. It's flexible and lets people help out casually when they can.
- Formal Volunteering: Structured programs where volunteers play defined roles, usually with supervision and regular commitments.
- Social Action: Groups formed around shared interests, focused on creating change in their community.
- Project-Based Volunteering: Short-term, high-involvement opportunities suited to people with limited time but a goal-driven mindset.
- Governance Volunteering: Involves serving on boards or committees to guide an organisation’s direction and leadership.
- Emergency/Spontaneous Volunteering: Happens during crises like floods or fires, providing short-term help. It can also include informal acts of kindness, like assisting neighbours when needed.
