PUBLIC EXHIBITION

Council is required to keep its ward boundaries under review to ensure that the variance between the ward with the highest number of electors and the ward with the lowest number of electors is not in excess of 10%.

This is stipulated in section 211 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Recent enrolment data from the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) indicates that there has been some movement in elector numbers since Camden Council last endorsed ward boundaries in 2019.

Based on the data provided by the NSWEC in April 2023, there is a current variance of 38.6% between the highest and lowest ward elector numbers.

Proposed ward boundary changes

In order to reduce the current 38.6% variance to no more than 10%, the following ward boundary amendments are proposed. These would require moving:

  • Spring Farm from the South Ward to the Central Ward;
  • Gledswood Hills from the Central Ward to the North Ward;
  • Harrington Park from the North Ward to the South Ward;
  • Smeaton Grange from the Central Ward to the South Ward; and
  • Two small parts of Gregory Hills from the Central Ward to the North Ward and South Ward respectively.

Based on the elector numbers as of 26 April 2023, the proposed ward boundary adjustment will reduce the variance between the ward with the highest number of electors and the ward with the lowest number of electors to 9.7%.

If approved by the NSWEC, the revised ward boundaries will take effect from the local government election for Council in 2024 and apply to the following term of Council from 2024-2028.
