Sustainability and Resilience

In 2020, Council adopted the Sustainability Strategy 2020-24 in an acknowledgement of its commitment to increasing action on sustainability, and to working with the community and other important stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the environment.

We're continuing this commitment by working towards an update of the Strategy and preparation of a Resilience Plan for Camden.

Why are they needed?

Well in addition to being one of the fastest population growth areas in Australia, we're feeling the impacts of flooding and other hazards (such as heat, bushfire, drought and extreme storms) which are placing greater pressure on our built and natural environment, as well as the social and economic health of the community.

  • The new Sustainability and Resilience Strategy will address challenges and realise opportunities to ensure we create a liveable environment for residents and visitors for years to come.
  • Development of the Camden Resilience Plan will create a shared vision and actions to support the community to be well connected, and able to prepare for and recover from natural disasters, emergencies, and change.

Resilience is the capacity of people, communities, businesses and systems to survive, adapt and thrive no matter what kinds of hazards they experience.

Examples include heatwaves, floods and bushfires.

Here are the milestones we plan to achieve with an idea of timeframes. These will be subject to change as we progress.
